The result was…
Rain
July 17th, 2010 by admin No comments »Just completed the first chapter of Rain, will post it once I’m done with the edit. Also got the latest chapter of The Cord to check through. Quite enjoying having two books to work on.
Now there’s a surprise
July 16th, 2010 by admin No comments »I’ve just begun work on a concurrent project with my fantasy saga. This one is a vampire noir. I’m using it use up and vent all of the things that I don’t want creeping into The One Saga. So it will be a more streamlined cast, dark humoured and fast paced (possibly) any way, I’ve put the opening up on a new page of its own.
An interesting Day
July 13th, 2010 by admin No comments »Yesterday, 12-07-2010, I spent the day at my children’s primary school working with different age groups. My aim for the day was to encourage the children be do some creative writing. With the year fives and sixes I asked them to imagine either a place of a creature and describe it to me. Not just the size, shape of colour but how did it move, what did it smell or feel like. Then they were asked to draw it and write a short piece showing me all this information.
The children were excellent, some producing pages of well thought out and planned pieces, their drawings were all done with great excitement as they brought their creations to life.
The younger children were, in my mind at least, given the harder task. They were asked to produce a cover blurb and matching story. We started by discussing what we liked about their favourite movie or book. Then they mode a few notes and expanded them into the final pieces all of which were good. One or two excelled above the rest and created something that was very accurate to the chosen title.
This was a day worth doing, more parents should go and get involved and spend a day in their children’s world. It’s been over 30 years since my primary school days and I can honestly say that the vocabulary and understanding of the children across all of the age groups was outstanding and far beyond what I was ever taught at their age.
A heart felt thank goes to all of the children, teachers and assistants who made the day fun and teach our children everyday.
And for today
June 22nd, 2010 by admin No comments »Here’s the opening to a new chapter.
A single word can change history: a dark command whispered on the wind. The response of the recipient and how they interpret that command can change the face of a nation forever. Such have been the ways of Accuson, the dark lord. He who fell like lightning from the heaven cast down by the host of heaven’s armies for his betrayal. He who believed himself equal to The One who lead a third of the heavenly host in rebellion paid the price with exile, never again would he or any of his followers set foot in heaven again. Accuson would wander to and fro throughout the earth looking for souls to devour with his false promises and silken words. Oh how he would promise the world to any that would bow their knee and worship him as the right and glorious king all the creation.
The minds of mortals and lesser beings could be bent with mere words, words that would become Accuson’s greatest weapon. For with just a few simple words he could turn a heart toward evil, teach it pride and self pity, teach a heart to hate and you have a slave for life. The promise of glory becomes self fulfilling as hatred leads to lust and lights the unquenchable fire of self destruction.
Outward appearances are but masks to hide the inner turmoil of the battlefield that is the mind. There are those who do not hide their true selves behind a myriad of deceptions but even they wage war between heart and mind. No one can fully resist the words of Accuson that carry on the wind like honey blossom, how sweat they taste in the mouth but to the heart they are a slow poison that gradually erodes the soul.
And tonight we finish with…
June 21st, 2010 by admin No comments »“We are returning to Grimlaw,” Emun closed his eyes and thought about his home, “that is where you can find me should you wish to. I will go and see Melech and relay to him all that has transpired here this day,” Emun turned and walked away.
As they made there way out of the Archive Narnock was waiting.
“I should like very much to feel the wind in my face one more time. If you would like a ride home I would gladly take you,” Narnock lowered himself to the ground.
“You can never have too many dragons as friends,” Emun climbed up onto Narnock’s back. “Stefry can you open a door to home?”
“I can do that,” as they climbed high into the artificial sky Stefry began to concentrate.
“You’ll have to hurry little fellow,” Narnock said as they burst through the cloud layer headed straight for the rocks above.
Stefry jumped to his feet crying out, “Ephaphta!” The rock ceiling peeled back to reveal the open skies of Meregith and the bright sun that shone upon the meadows.
“Ha ha,” Narnock laughed triumphantly as he circled around the mountain peaks of the Dragons Teeth.
